Dry summer impacts on Kiwifruit
The Bay of Plenty over the 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 summer growing seasons had relatively low rainfall. This has left some growers wondering if their vines were able to take up enough water on un-irrigated soils or if they were putting enough, or too much, water on where irrigation was available. In this article I follow an un-irrigated orchard located in Maketu in the Western Bay of Plenty, near Te Puke, through the 2009-2010 season.
